This coming weekend is, for me, the beginning of summer in the City! Although the summer solstice is still days away, the weather is finally warming, and Memorial Day weekend heralds in the beginning of street festival season. And right here in the heart of Lakeview, on the Old Chicago Inn’s Block, is the location of not only one of the season’s firsts but also one of the longest running street festivals in the city: the Belmont Sheffield Music Festival.
This will be the 27th year for the Belmont Sheffield Music Festival. True to its name the festival is all about music. The main stage (north end) features an impressive line up of local and regional acts. And in front of our sister business, Trader Todd’s, you can join the line up on our outdoor Karaoke stage. In addition to great music, visitors will enjoy a variety of food at the festival, as well as arts and crafts, and wearables.
The proceeds from the festival benefit the Central Lakeview Merchants Association which provides a variety of services to our neighborhood including street cleaning and beautification. For more festival information and a complete band schedule click here.
For our guests staying with us this weekend, please note that Sheffield Avenue will be closed to traffic from Friday evening through early Monday morning. Please call ahead for assistance at check in if you are arriving over the weekend.
Throughout the summer there a many festivals on any given weekend so if you are interested in experiencing this Chicago tradition please ask your innkeeper for a list of current festivals and their locations. Happy Summer, Happy Festing!
